Summary

In this alternate timeline, Soviet cosmonaut Alexei Leonov becomes the first human on the Moon in 1969, triggering an intensified U.S.–Soviet space race. To match Soviet displays of equality, such as including women in early lunar missions, the United States accelerates the integration of women and ethnic minorities into its astronaut corps. Heightened global competition pushes major powers toward earlier modernization, sustained technological investment, and more competent leadership.

The resulting decades produce far‑reaching civilian advances: earlier civil‑rights progress, widespread electric vehicles, civilian fusion power, controlled carbon emissions, and the absence of a climate crisis. Each season of the narrative moves forward roughly ten years, from the 1970s through the 2010s. The divergence stems from Sergei Korolev surviving past 1966, enabling the USSR to complete a successful Moon landing and reshaping world history.
