Summary
Like the original series, the Get Smart revival follows the ongoing conflict between CONTROL, now led by Maxwell Smart in his new role as Chief, and the villainous organisation KAOS. Although Don Adams and Barbara Feldon return as Max and Agent 99, they are no longer the central focus; 99 has left espionage behind to serve in Congress, and her real name remains undisclosed.
The narrative shifts to a new generation of operatives. Agent 66 is an intelligent, highly capable field agent with little patience for incompetence. Her new partner, Zachary Smart, Max and 99’s son, has just been promoted from CONTROL’s research division and, like his father, is enthusiastic but accident‑prone. Despite the original series establishing that the Smarts had twins, no reference is made to Zach’s sibling.
Zach’s inexperience leads him to rely heavily on his field manual, much to Agent 66’s frustration. They occasionally receive assistance from Agent 0, a master of disguise. Max, meanwhile, is no longer CONTROL’s least competent employee; that distinction belongs to his secretary, Trudy, a temp who mistakenly believed she was joining a talent agency and now knows far too many secrets to be dismissed.
