Summary
Into the Labyrinth was a British children’s fantasy drama centred on an ongoing conflict between the benevolent wizard Rothgo and the malevolent witch Belor. Across the first two series, Rothgo is assisted by three contemporary children, Phil and siblings Helen and Terry, who discover him imprisoned within a cave. After freeing him, the trio agree to help recover the nidus, the mystical object that serves as the source of Rothgo’s power and which Belor has stolen and carried back through time.
Each episode follows the children and Rothgo as they arrive at a different historical period, attempting to reclaim the nidus from Belor, who repeatedly disguises herself as notable figures from the era they enter. By the conclusion of the first series, the nidus is restored to Rothgo, seemingly resolving the conflict.
At the outset of the second series, however, it is revealed that Belor has used an even more potent magical artefact, the albedo, to shatter the nidus into seven fragments and disperse them throughout history. Rothgo, once again aided by Phil, Helen, and Terry, undertakes a renewed journey into the past to retrieve each fragment, while Belor continues to appear in every time period to obstruct their progress.
