Summary
After being imprisoned within a space‑borne cauldron for 20,000 years, the evil empress Rita Repulsa is inadvertently released by a group of astronauts exploring the Moon. Upon regaining her freedom, she reunites with her loyal henchmen and immediately resolves to conquer Earth. In response, the pan‑dimensional being Zordon recruits five teenagers to oppose her forces. These youths , Jason (Red Ranger), the team’s leader; Trini (Yellow Ranger); Zack (Black Ranger); Kimberly (Pink Ranger); and Billy (Blue Ranger) , are granted access to advanced weaponry and colossal mechanical constructs known as Zords.
Rita later creates an evil counterpart to the team: the Green Ranger, Tommy, who initially serves as her agent. Tommy eventually breaks free from her control and joins the Power Rangers, expanding the team to six members. Rita’s dominance on the Moon is soon challenged by the arrival of Lord Zedd, a more powerful villain who banishes her and assumes command. Zedd succeeds in stripping Tommy of his Green Ranger powers, but Zordon subsequently appoints Tommy as the White Ranger, restoring him to active duty.
The Rangers later learn that Jason, Trini, and Zack have been selected as World Peace Ambassadors. Their departure necessitates the appointment of new Rangers: Rocky (Red Ranger II), Adam (Black Ranger II), and Aisha (Yellow Ranger II), all of whom are friends of the original team. Rita eventually returns to Earth with a scheme to make Lord Zedd fall in love with her; although the love potion she employs is revealed by Goldar to have been ineffective, Zedd genuinely reciprocates her affection.
The Rangers must now contend with two villainous forces simultaneously. Kimberly, struggling to balance her duties as a Power Ranger with her training as a competitive gymnast, suffers an injury and ultimately chooses to retire from the team. She is succeeded by Katherine (Pink Ranger II), who had previously been manipulated by Rita and Zedd.
The situation deteriorates further when Master Vile, Rita’s father, arrives on Earth and assumes control of the villains’ operations. He successfully destroys the Rangers’ powers by planting a bomb within the Command Centre and subsequently transforms the Rangers into children. Zordon informs them of the Zeo Crystal, a powerful artefact capable of restoring their abilities. Each Ranger undertakes a personal quest to retrieve a fragment of the crystal. During her mission, Aisha elects to remain with a tribal community she encounters, sending Tanya (Zeo Ranger II – Yellow) back in her place to join the team.
