Summary

The world is depicted as undergoing a period of rapid technological expansion, culminating in a major exhibition in Japan showcasing large‑scale robotic innovations from across the globe. During the event, a sudden and unexplained assault is carried out by a mysterious military force that seizes all exhibited machines. This force operates under the command of President Devilar, an enigmatic autocrat who leads the Tetsumen Tō (Steel Mask Party), an organisation dedicated to achieving global domination through the deployment and modification of advanced robots.

As part of this campaign, Devilar orders the abduction of leading scientists to assist in the enhancement of the captured machines. Among those targeted is Kurenai Kenichirō, a distinguished engineer engaged in the development of a confidential project: Red Baron, a robot intended to surpass all existing technological achievements. Kenichirō entrusts knowledge of the project solely to his younger brother Ken, a member of the elite Super Science Institute (SSI).

Kenichirō is subsequently kidnapped by the Tetsumen Tō and fitted with an explosive device to coerce him into revealing Red Baron’s location. Before the organisation can seize the robot, Ken activates Red Baron and uses it to repel the attackers, including their giant combat machine Troy Horse. In retaliation for this act of defiance, President Devilar detonates the device implanted in Kenichirō, killing him in front of the horrified Ken.
