Summary

Newspaper reporter Kazuyuki Asakawa becomes aware of a circulating urban legend concerning a cursed videotape said to kill its viewer precisely thirteen days after playback. Initially dismissive, he reconsiders the rumour when a series of unexplained deaths, apparently linked to the tale, occur within his own social circle. Asakawa’s inquiry leads him to the prominent occult researcher Ryuuji Takayama, whose recent televised confrontation with a sceptic of the supernatural has drawn public suspicion of foul play.

Guided by Takayama’s esoteric insight and relying on his own investigative persistence, Asakawa succeeds in locating the alleged tape. The recording contains a superimposed message delivering an explicit malediction upon the viewer, declaring their death thirteen days from the moment of viewing. Having now watched the tape himself and convinced of its lethal intent, Asakawa undertakes a systematic search for the origin of the phenomenon and a possible means of counteracting the sequence of inexplicable fatalities.
