Summary

Three months after the events of Ring, Mai (Yada) struggles to resume her life when she receives a warning that Sadako (Kimura) may have escaped the abandoned well that served as her prison. Mai joins Mitsuo, a schoolteacher investigating rumours of a cursed videotape, and his former student Natsumi. Their inquiry reveals a scientific basis for Sadako’s curse: the Ring Virus, a digital code capable of mutating human DNA to recreate Sadako.

The virus has already spread via a compact disc broadcast by a local television station. Mai learns she has been infected and is carrying a new incarnation of Sadako, who rapidly matures and attacks victims by strangulation rather than inducing fear-related death like the original.
