Summary
The Secret Files of Captain Video was a companion programme to the widely viewed daily series Captain Video and his Video Rangers. In contrast to the serialised narrative structure of the parent series, The secret Files of Captain Video comprised largely self‑contained episodes, with only a single story presented in two parts. Broadcast fortnightly on Saturday mornings, the series alternated with instalments of Tom Corbett, Space Cadet. Many of its narratives were framed as events that had occurred prior to the storylines depicted in the daily broadcasts.
Like numerous programmes produced for the DuMont Television Network (DTN), The Secret Files of Captain Video faced limited distribution. Whereas the main Captain Video series was carried by more than one hundred stations, The Secret Files of Captain Video was shown only on DTN’s four owned‑and‑operated stations and a small number of affiliates, including WGN in Chicago. This restricted carriage significantly curtailed the programme’s national visibility.
