Summary
Sleepwalkers explores the intersection of consciousness, neuroscience and dream psychology, presenting a heightened blend of suspense and speculative science. Directed by David Nutter, known for his work on X‑Files, the and Millennium. the series depicts a world in which the boundaries between waking reality and the dream state are persistently unstable. Its premise centres on the notion that dreams can be navigated, interpreted and even confronted as if they were physical environments.
At the centre of this work is The Morpheus Institute, an organisation founded by leading neurophysiologist Nathan Bradford. The Institute’s elite staff possess the ability to enter the dream worlds of others, providing intervention for individuals tormented by recurring nightmares or psychological manifestations. Their efforts are complicated by the inherent danger of dream‑entry: injuries sustained within the dream state manifest physically in the waking world, rendering each mission a genuine risk.
The Institute’s head dream interpreter and psychologist, Kate Russel, seeks to identify meaningful connections between conscious experience and subconscious imagery. Her colleague and co‑founder, Steve Turner, continually pushes the limits of dream immersion, remaining within dream environments for increasingly extended periods. The newest member of the team is Ben Costigan, a former patient and ex‑fighter pilot whose tolerance for risk makes him well suited to the Institute’s hazardous work. Technical support is provided by Vincent Konefke, an emotionally driven computer specialist.
