Summary
Space Academy was established on an artificial planetoid in Star Year 3732. The institution was administered by Commander Gampu (portrayed by Jonathan Harris, known for Lost in Space), who served as a strict yet equitable authority figure. Although the Academy enrolled numerous cadets, the series centred on the activities of the Nova Blue Team. In contrast to earlier space‑training programmes such as Tom Corbett, Space Cadet, the Academy’s cohort comprised both young men and women drawn from diverse national backgrounds.
The Nova Blue Team included two fully trained officers, Captain Chris Gentry and Lieutenant Paul Jerome, alongside four cadets: Laura Gentry (Chris’s sister), Adrian, Tee Gar, and Loki. Loki, the youngest member of the group, was an alien youth rescued by the team in the opening episode. Possessing no knowledge of his origins, he frequently found himself in troublesome situations. His abilities included invisibility and X‑ray vision. The team’s missions were further supported by Peppo, a service robot assigned to assist the cadets.
Each episode incorporated a moral or educational theme, reflecting the conventions of Saturday‑morning children’s programming of the 1970s.
