Summary
Primarily targeted at a teenage audience, The Tribe is set in a post‑apocalyptic urban environment in which all adults have died following the outbreak of an unidentified virus. The narrative centres on the surviving children and adolescents, who must confront the social, emotional, and ethical challenges of adolescence while contending with the broader instability of a society that has collapsed into anarchy. In the absence of adult authority, the young inhabitants organise themselves into distinct social groups, or tribes, each characterised by its own ideology, customs, and visual identity.
The series focuses on the Mall Rats, a group attempting to establish stability and cooperation amid threats from rival factions, most notably the Locos. Recurring thematic concerns include societal transformation, empowerment, belief systems, and the dynamics of power and corruption. Production of the series took place in Wellington, New Zealand.
