Summary
Nanase Futatabi follows Nanase Takigawa, a young telepath who lives a transient life to avoid public discovery of her abilities. During a rainstorm aboard a train, she encounters two other psychic children: Tsuneo Horiuchi, a clairvoyant who foresees the train’s imminent destruction, and Norio Niigaki, an empath who confirms the prediction. The trio escape moments before the train crashes and subsequently flee from Norio’s stepmother, who believes them to be sorcerers.
Seeking refuge in Tokyo, they are aided by Henry, a bar worker, and later travel to Hokkaido, where they prevent a murder and meet Fujiko, a time traveller from the future. Fujiko discovers that the children descend from a telepathic lineage that thrived in Hokkaido centuries earlier. Meanwhile, journalist Yamamura pursues their story but ultimately agrees to help them.
Nanase travels with Yamamura to Macao in hopes of securing funds to purchase land where the children can live safely. There she encounters Princess Henide and becomes entangled with a criminal group intent on exterminating telepaths. After rescuing Yamamura, Nanase returns to Japan, but the group’s pursuers continue their hunt, forcing Nanase and her companions into a struggle for survival as they attempt to protect themselves and their future.
