Summary
Suzuki, an unconventional researcher affiliated with a university hospital, develops a pioneering anticancer compound designed to inhibit the self‑renewal capacity of cancer stem cells. Despite the potential significance of his findings, his colleagues reject the validity of his research, and institutional authorities refuse to authorize human clinical trials. In response, Suzuki forms an alliance with Manami, a patient diagnosed with terminal cancer, and together they undertake an unsanctioned clinical experiment. The consequences of this decision soon diverge sharply from Suzuki’s expectations, raising questions about the fate of the researcher, the patient, and the experimental drug, as well as the broader implications of opening a scientific “Pandora’s box.”
