Summary
Set in the 32nd century, the series takes place in the far‑future era of the Star Trek franchise, during a period in which Starfleet and the United Federation of Planets are rebuilding following a cataclysmic event previously depicted in Star Trek: Discovery (2017–2024). The narrative centres on the first new cohort of Starfleet cadets to be admitted in more than a century, charting their development as they undertake training to become commissioned officers. Instruction is conducted aboard the USS Athena, a starship assigned to the Academy that ordinarily docks at the institution’s campus in San Francisco but is capable of deployment alongside the wider fleet.
