Summary

The Tomorrow People are humans who represent an early stage in the emergence of Homo superior, a proposed successor to Homo sapiens arising through evolutionary development. Although the individuals depicted in the series are among the most recent examples of this subspecies, earlier generations of Homo superior are described as having appeared approximately 30–40 years prior. Members of this group are present across the world.

In late adolescence or early adulthood, Tomorrow People develop innate psionic abilities collectively known as the Three T’s: Telepathy, Teleportation, and Telekinesis. A fourth ability, Temporal Manipulation, is also portrayed within the series. These abilities manifest spontaneously and are regarded as defining characteristics of their evolutionary advancement.

The narrative follows Stephen Jameson, a newly emergent Tomorrow Person whose father, considered the most powerful of their kind, disappeared years earlier while attempting to locate a secure refuge for Tomorrow People. Stephen’s development and his search for the truth surrounding his father’s disappearance form a central element of the storyline.

The Tomorrow People are pursued by Ultra, a covert organization dedicated to the suppression of telepathic individuals through genetic cleansing. Ultra employs captured Tomorrow People to locate, neutralize, or eliminate others of their kind. Its headquarters are engineered to inhibit psionic abilities, though Stephen displays an unusual resistance to these countermeasures. Beyond Ultra, their families, and a small circle of trusted associates, the Tomorrow People remain unknown to the wider public, maintaining secrecy to avoid persecution. As a result, they operate primarily from the Lair, a concealed subterranean base beneath Manhattan that serves as their principal sanctuary and operational centre.
