Summary
Sun Wukong, born from a magical stone, is imprisoned beneath a mountain for five centuries as punishment for his transgressions in Heaven. In accordance with divine decree, Guanyin informs him that the monk Tang Sanzang will one day release him, after which he must accompany the monk on a pilgrimage from China to India. When Tripitaka (Tang Sanzang) arrives the following day, he frees Sun Wukong, and the two begin their westward journey.
During their travels, they encounter and recruit additional companions: Zhu Bajie, and Sha Wujing, a hermit dwelling by the river. Together, the group confronts numerous dangers, including hostile creatures, malevolent sorcerers, and other supernatural threats, gradually learning cooperation and discipline as they progress toward their sacred destination.
